At Anime Expo 2026, Atlus unveiled comprehensive details regarding Persona 4: Revival, a project described as a distinct reimagining of the original role-playing experience. The studio confirmed that every in-game anime cutscene within the title will be produced by MAPPA, the Japanese animation studio widely recognized for its work on series such as Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man. This development represents a notable shift for both the franchise and the animation house, as it marks the first time MAPPA has managed the entire suite of cinematic sequences for a Persona title. Previously, the studio only contributed opening animations and select sequences for Persona 5 Royal. According to reports from the event, this project constitutes only the second instance in MAPPA's history of handling all cutscenes for a video game, following the 2025 release Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road.

To ensure thematic alignment, the animation director reportedly played through the series from the first entry up to Persona 4 before production began on the reimagining. During the panel held at Anime Expo, Atlus showcased preview footage, including sequences where the protagonist, Yosuke, and Teddie encounter Shadows and manifest their Personas for the first time. Storyboards detailing the studio's visual approach were also shared with attendees.

Persona 4: Revival returns players to the rural Japanese town of Inaba, where a string of mysterious murders occurring during rainy nights draws a group of high school students into a supernatural world accessible through television screens. While the release remains faithful to the core experience of the 2008 original, Atlus clarified that the game is a unique reimagining separate from Persona 4 Golden. Beyond the visual overhaul, the game will feature re-recorded dialogue for all characters, covering both major narrative beats and minor events. The combat system will incorporate new mechanics, including a field-guarding system that allows players to strike Shadows as they flinch to secure preemptive advantages. Additionally, the game will feature the Baton Pass—a mechanic originating in later series entries—and a new "Prime Time" gauge. This gauge allows for a series of attacks with zero skill costs, concluding in a high-damage finisher.

Alongside the animation announcement, Atlus debuted a trailer focused on the character Rise Kujikawa. Abby Trott was confirmed as the new English voice actress for the role. She joins a previously announced English cast that includes Nazeeh Tarsha as Yu Narukami, Paul Castro Jr. As Yosuke Hanamura, Anne Yatco as Chie Satonaka, and Brianna Knickerbocker as Yukiko Amagi.

Atlus also confirmed that the project will feature an updated soundtrack, including a fresh opening theme and new battle music, with further details on the composition scheduled for a later release. To coincide with the announcement, the studio revealed that Persona 4: The Animation and Persona 4: The Golden Animation will be available for free streaming on Aniplex USA’s YouTube channel between July 4 and August 19.

Persona 4: Revival is scheduled to launch on February 18, 2027. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store. Atlus confirmed that the title will be included on Game Pass at launch.
