The 2026 World Cup group stage is approaching its final matches, as the field for the Round of 32 takes shape. With the top two teams from each of the 12 groups automatically advancing, alongside the eight best third-place finishers, the tournament is entering a critical juncture.

Several nations have already solidified their positions in the knockout stage, including Mexico, the United States, Brazil, Germany, France, Switzerland, Canada, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Netherlands, Japan, Norway, Colombia, and Portugal.

In Group A, Mexico secured the top spot and will return to Mexico City Stadium on Tuesday. South Africa finished second and is set to face Canada in Los Angeles on Sunday. South Korea also advanced as one of the best third-place teams, while Czechia finished last.

Group B concluded with Switzerland winning the group after defeating Canada. Both teams advanced, and Bosnia and Herzegovina claimed a third-place spot, earning a matchup against the United States in Santa Clara, California, on Wednesday. Qatar finishes the tournament eliminated.

Brazil topped Group C following a 3-0 win over Scotland. Morocco claimed the second spot via goal differential, while Scotland remains in a tenuous position, currently waiting to see if they qualify among the eight best third-place finishers.

The United States finished first in Group D. Australia secured second place following a scoreless draw with Paraguay, and Paraguay—currently holding four points—is also through as a third-place qualifier.

Germany clinched the top spot in Group E, despite an upset loss to Ecuador, who advanced as a third-place team. The Ivory Coast finished second, while Curaçao was eliminated. In Group F, the Netherlands finished first, followed by Japan, with Sweden qualifying as one of the best third-place sides. Tunisia was eliminated.

Group G remains highly competitive; Egypt enters the final day with a chance to clinch the group with a victory. Belgium, Iran, and New Zealand are also vying for knockout spots.

Group H sees Spain in a strong position to clinch the top spot, while Cape Verde and Uruguay are battling for the second automatic berth. Saudi Arabia remains alive but requires a victory and assistance from other results.

France secured the top spot in Group I, with Norway finishing as the runner-up. Senegal remains in contention for a third-place knockout berth after a victory over Iraq, who finished last.

Argentina has already won Group J and is scheduled to play in Miami on July 3. Algeria and Austria meet on the final matchday with second place at stake, though a draw could potentially leave both teams waiting to see if they advance as third-place finishers.

Colombia leads Group K and has already qualified, with Portugal in a strong position to join them. DR Congo and Uzbekistan must secure results in their final matches to maintain their hopes.

Group L remains the most open, with England, Ghana, and Croatia all in contention for the top spots. England currently holds the lead on goal differential. Panama has been eliminated but continues to compete in a spoiler capacity against England.

Qualification for third-place teams is determined by points, followed by goal differential if teams remain level. FIFA world rankings are utilized as a final tiebreaker.
