Samsung Launches The Freestyle+ AI Smart Projector

Samsung has officially introduced the Freestyle+, a third-generation entry in its series of portable, cylindrical projectors. The device, which emphasizes a “point and play” experience through automated setup, is now available for purchase through the company's website and select retailers at a price of $1,199.99.

The latest iteration maintains the familiar 180-degree rotating cradle design of its predecessors while introducing significant internal hardware and software refinements. According to Samsung Electronics America, the core objective of the new model is to eliminate the need for specialized surfaces, such as dedicated screens or blank white walls, by utilizing advanced sensory technology and automated alignment tools.

Enhanced Visual Performance and AI Integration

A primary hardware upgrade in the Freestyle+ is the jump in brightness, now rated at 430 ISO lumens. This represents approximately double the brightness of the previous generation, a change aimed at allowing the device to maintain image quality in rooms with dim ambient light. The projector maintains a native 1080p resolution and supports HDR10+ content, capable of casting images up to 100 inches diagonally.

Central to the device’s operation is a suite of software tools Samsung groups as “AI OptiScreen.” This system automates the most common configuration hurdles:

• 3D Auto Keystone: Engineered to correct image distortion on irregular surfaces, this tool can flatten projections on corners, curtains, or angled walls.
• Real-Time Focus: Continuously adjusts image sharpness as the projector is moved or rotated.
• Screen Fit: Automatically resizes the projected image to fit within a specific available area on a wall.
• Wall Calibration: Analyzes the color and texture of the projection surface—such as patterned wallpaper or colored paint—and manipulates the output to minimize color interference.

Ecosystem and Connectivity

The Freestyle+ integrates with the broader Samsung technology ecosystem. It supports the Vision AI Companion, a conversational assistant that allows users to interact with the device to find content or ask questions about what is on screen. The system includes access to Samsung TV Plus and the company's Gaming Hub, which consolidates game streaming services and external game device connections.

Audio is managed through a 360-degree speaker system with dual passive woofers. For those seeking a more robust sound setup, the unit supports Q-Symphony, allowing it to synchronize with compatible Samsung soundbars. The device supports screen casting from both Galaxy and Apple devices via AirPlay. While it requires a constant power connection during use, it can be powered by an external USB-C battery, a feature designed for outdoor use or camping trips.

Market Positioning

The launch of the Freestyle+ arrives at a higher price point than previous models. Industry observers have noted that Samsung is positioning this premium model as a solution for users who value maximum flexibility over traditional home theater setups.
