Galaxy Z Flip8 arrives with thinner chassis and expanded outer screen utility

Samsung officially unveiled the Galaxy Z Flip8 on Wednesday, 22 July 2026, during the annual Galaxy Unpacked event held at Old Billingsgate in London. While the company simultaneously introduced the Galaxy Z Fold8 series and the Galaxy Watch9 and Watch Ultra2, the Z Flip8 arrives as a refinement of the company’s clamshell foldable line, prioritizing a thinner physical profile and expanded capabilities for its exterior interface.

The Galaxy Z Flip8 features a slimmer, more portable build compared to its predecessor. The chassis now measures 6.1mm thick when unfolded, and the device weighs 180g, which is eight grams lighter than the previous iteration. Samsung retains its Armor aluminum frame while introducing a new high-strength material for the hinge mechanism to improve structural rigidity. Furthermore, the entire new foldable lineup incorporates Flex Titanium technology, which integrates a titanium alloy film with a reinforced plate to improve overall durability and reduce the visibility of the display crease.

The device maintains the hardware specifications of its predecessor, featuring a 6.9-inch internal AMOLED display with a 21:9 aspect ratio and a 4.1-inch AMOLED cover screen. The primary advancement for 2026 is the functional expansion of the outer screen, known as the FlexWindow. Whereas previous models limited the cover display to widgets, the Z Flip8 now provides full access to the photo gallery, a web browser, a comprehensive app drawer, and a recents menu. Users can also access notifications and quick settings, allowing for significant device interaction without needing to unfold the phone.

Samsung has also integrated an AI-centric interface into the FlexWindow. Through Galaxy AI and Gemini Intelligence, the device is designed to interpret on-screen context to automate tasks. According to the company, these AI tools can interact with approximately 40 applications to manage tasks such as restaurant bookings, schedule management, and ticket lookups.

The camera array consists of a 50MP main sensor and a 12MP ultrawide lens. To enhance video recording, Samsung has included horizon lock stabilization for the Flex Cam. The device is powered by a 4300mAh battery.

The Galaxy Z Flip8 is available in Graphite, Cream, Pink, and a Mint finish exclusive to the Samsung online store. Pre-orders for the device began on 22 July 2026, with general sales scheduled to open on 7 August 2026 in major global markets including South Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom, India, and Brazil.
