UK coroner rules penis enlargement procedure in Thailand killed Igho Ubiribo

Igho "Tiny" Ubiribo was laid to rest in London this May in a gold coffin reportedly valued between $600,000 and $745,000. Yet, a September 2026 inquest at the Inner West London Coroners’ Court revealed a clinical reality that stripped away the image of invulnerability: the 43-year-old British-Nigerian businessman died because cosmetic filler injected into his penis had migrated into his lungs.

Assistant Coroner Jean Harkin ruled that Ubiribo died from a pulmonary embolism caused by the elective procedure. The verdict corrects early reports that claimed he had suffered a heart attack while in the Philippines. Instead, the evidence traces a fatal path from an unnamed clinic in Bangkok, Thailand, to a failed resuscitation attempt at a local hospital.

Ubiribo, known to his 185,000 Instagram followers as "Tiny," "Denisi," or "Ego," lived a life designed for the lens. His digital presence was a catalog of extreme affluence: designer fashion, trips to Bali, Cape Town, and Paris, and a circle of high-profile friends including Afrobeats superstar Davido. He was part of the singer's "30BG" circle, and the two were described as childhood friends.

This projection of wealth was anchored in tangible assets. According to reports, Ubiribo owned a $1.1 million home in the Crenshaw neighborhood of Los Angeles and a $600,000 apartment in Shepherd's Bush, London. His 2022 wedding to Anglo-Zimbabwean fashion designer Danielle Simba Allen in Zimbabwe was an extravagant affair, with some reports valuing the ceremony at $473,000.

But the body behind the brand had its own vulnerabilities.

During the inquest, Ubiribo's primary care doctor in London testified that the businessman was pre-diabetic and suffered from gout. He had also previously undergone surgery on his joints, though the doctor indicated he had no other significant medical conditions.

The Bangkok Timeline

In March 2026, while vacationing at a Marriott hotel in Bangkok with his wife, Ubiribo visited an unnamed clinic for a non-surgical penis enlargement. He was injected with approximately 40 millilitres of hyaluronic acid and lidocaine, a combination used to increase the girth of the organ.

The deterioration began shortly after. While receiving a massage, Ubiribo complained of chest pain and lost consciousness twice. He was rushed by ambulance to Sukhumvit Hospital, where he was initially conscious and able to answer questions normally. It was at this stage that Danielle Simba Allen informed medical staff about the filler injections.

Doctors suspected a pulmonary embolism—a blockage in a blood vessel in the lungs—and recommended a CT scan. Ubiribo lost consciousness before the scan could be performed. He was moved to the intensive care unit, where medical staff performed CPR for more than 100 minutes. He died in the early hours of March 6, 2026.

Postmortem and Pulmonary Blockage

The cause of death was confirmed by comparing the Thai autopsy with a subsequent postmortem in the UK. Pathologist John du Parcq testified that the cellular material found in Ubiribo's lungs matched the hyaluronic acid used in the filler jab.

While hyaluronic acid is typically absorbed by the body over six to nine months, the coroner concluded that in this instance, the material caused a fatal blockage. This embolism restricted blood flow to the lungs and placed severe strain on the heart.

Medical professionals have warned that while these fillers are popular and can cost up to $9,000, they carry risks of devastating complications. According to the Cleveland Clinic, these can include:

• Infection and inflammation
• Permanent scarring
• Loss of sensation or erectile dysfunction
• Deformity, such as a "bend or kink" in the shape of the penis

Celebrity Grief and Online Mockery

The aftermath of the ruling has highlighted a divide in how Ubiribo is remembered. At the funeral in Kensington, Davido described the loss as "heavy," stating that Ubiribo's energy and presence were impossible to replace. He wrote in a tribute, You loved and believed in me so much, promising not to let his friend down.

Socialite Cubana Chief Priest also shared video footage of the ceremony, posting that the lifestyle was kept even in death.

However, once the specific nature of the procedure became public, the tone shifted. While some online users expressed sadness, others responded with insensitive humor regarding the genital enlargement. This reaction stands in contrast to the private devotion Ubiribo showed his wife; in June 2025, he wrote on Instagram that Allen had been his anchor through life's highs and lows.

The final ruling by Coroner Jean Harkin removes the ambiguity of early reports, officially linking the volume of cosmetic filler directly to the fatal pulmonary embolism.
