Hisense debuts AI Companion home appliance suite at IFA 2026

For decades, starting a load of laundry has required a human to identify fabric types, select a cycle from a dial, and set the temperature. Hisense is now attempting to eliminate these manual decisions. At IFA 2026 in Berlin, the company debuted its AI Companion Suite, which proposes a load-and-go experience where appliances recognize clothing characteristics and automatically adjust wash and dry cycles without user intervention, according to WV Gazette-Mail.

The shift moves home appliances from standalone tools to an orchestrated system. By integrating its V AIOS operating system with Amazon's Alexa+ and the ConnectLife platform, Hisense aims to reduce the cognitive load of household chores. However, this autonomy creates a technical trade-off: while the system can "think" and "execute" tasks, the actual mapping of complex user requests to specific device settings relies on external AI toolkits.

The Kitchen Journey: From Recognition to Execution

The AI Companion Suite reimagines the kitchen as a connected sequence rather than a collection of separate machines. According to reports from Yonhap, the process begins with the AI Companion Refrigerator, which identifies stored ingredients and suggests meal ideas tailored to personal preferences. This is not a static list; once a recipe is selected, the refrigerator syncs with the AI Companion Oven to facilitate automatic cooking.

This orchestration extends to post-meal cleanup. The AI Companion Dishwasher is designed to recognize the condition of the dishes and adjust its cleaning cycle accordingly. Additionally, the AI Companion Wine Cabinet manages storage conditions and offers pairing recommendations to match the meal selected by the refrigerator.

The underlying mechanism for this coordination is ConnectLife, which provides the connectivity layer allowing these disparate appliances to share data and trigger actions across the kitchen ecosystem.

Laundry and Living Space Automation

Beyond the kitchen, Hisense is applying similar autonomous logic to clothing care and climate control. In the laundry suite, the system identifies the characteristics of the clothing loaded into the machine to select the appropriate cycles. This removes the need for the user to manually specify load types or temperatures.

In the living area, the AI Companion Air Conditioner uses presence-sensing technology. According to WV Gazette-Mail, the unit senses indoor conditions and the movement of people through a room, adapting the airflow in real-time to match user presence.

This environmental sensing is paired with a broader energy strategy. The AI Companion Energy System does not operate on a simple timer; it monitors external weather data and time-of-use electricity pricing to optimize when and how the household consumes power.

Technical Architecture: V AIOS vs. Alexa+

The "intelligence" of the suite is divided between Hisense's proprietary V AIOS and third-party interfaces. V AIOS is described as the engine that gives devices four specific capabilities: the ability to Sense events, Think through responses, Communicate across devices, and Execute tasks autonomously. This system is intended to let the home "do more while asking less" of the resident.

However, a distinction exists in how users interact with these systems. While V AIOS handles the autonomous orchestration, Hisense is using the Amazon Alexa+ Smart Home AI Toolkit for specific user-facing controls. For select air conditioners, Alexa+ acts as the translator; the assistant maps a natural language request, navigates the necessary settings, and then completes the action on the device.

This dual-layer approach suggests that while the hardware can execute tasks autonomously via V AIOS, the sophisticated "understanding" of human voice commands is still outsourced to Amazon's ecosystem.

The company's focus on this integration has coincided with industry recognition at IFA. In addition to the Multi Function II Series and X-zone Master awards, the U8 Air Master Air Conditioner, W60 3D Kitchen-fit Series, and a 60cm Integrated Wine Cabinet were also recognized for their design and usability, according to Yonhap.
