Garmin unveils CIRQA Smart Band, its first screen-free fitness tracker

Garmin has officially entered the screen-free wearable market with the launch of the CIRQA Smart Band. Announced on 21 July 2026, the device marks a departure for the company, moving away from its traditional focus on display-equipped smartwatches to compete in a category defined by unobtrusive, recovery-focused trackers.

The CIRQA Smart Band features a fiber-reinforced polymer module weighing 14.8 grams, paired with a fabric strap designed for comfort. According to Gsmarena, the device is rated 5ATM and can be worn on the wrist or as an armband. The wearable lacks any visual output, relying entirely on the Garmin Connect app for data visualization. Susan Lyman, Garmin Vice President of Consumer Sales and Marketing, stated the device is intended to minimise distractions while still providing the health and performance metrics the brand is known for via The Next Web.

Market Positioning and Subscription Models

The launch represents a direct challenge to the subscription-heavy models favored by competitors. While companies like Whoop require a mandatory membership for access to core recovery and fitness data, Garmin has opted for a one-time purchase model for the CIRQA. The device is priced at $199.99. The Next Web notes that this pricing strategy aims to attract users who find the cumulative multi-year costs of subscription-based trackers to be prohibitively expensive.

Although the core functionality is subscription-free, the device does offer optional integration with the FDA-cleared Natural Cycles app for cycle tracking, which requires a separate subscription. Additionally, The Next Web reports that users may choose to subscribe to Garmin Connect+ for $6.99 a month or $69.99 annually to access deeper analytical insights, though the company emphasizes that the standard health metrics remain free of charge.

Despite its minimal physical design, the CIRQA includes a comprehensive sensor suite capable of 24/7 monitoring. The tracker provides data on:

Design and Battery Performance

Garmin rates the battery life of the CIRQA at up to 10 days, even with continuous health monitoring enabled. The band is available in seven colorways: Black, Citron Gray, Captain Blue, Dark Olive, French Gray, French Blue, and Mauve.

Industry Context

The shift toward screen-free hardware comes at a time of increased interest in low-distraction technology.
