Three killed and 21 wounded in Moscow restaurant bombing

An improvised explosive device detonated at a restaurant in central Moscow, killing three people and wounding 21 others according to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. The blast occurred at approximately 8 p.m. Local time at the Balzi Rossi restaurant, situated in one of Moscow's Stalin-era skyscrapers according to RFE/RL.

The confrontation at the entrance unfolded as a security guard stopped an unidentified woman carrying the explosive device from entering the restaurant according to RFE/RL. The device detonated, killing the woman, the security guard, and one of the restaurant's guests as reported by RFE/RL. The venue itself had been closed for a private function according to RFE/RL, while dozens of cyclists had been gathering nearby for an evening ride according to the Daily Mirror.

Heavily armed law-enforcement officers, ambulances, and emergency vehicles were at the scene according to RFE/RL.
