Russia kills two in overnight missile and drone strikes across Ukraine

Russia conducted a coordinated aerial barrage against Ukraine on Saturday, July 11, 2026, utilizing a combination of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and hundreds of drones. The overnight offensive resulted in at least two deaths and left approximately 19 people wounded across the country. Ukraine’s air force reported that the assault included six ballistic missiles, six cruise missiles, and 121 drones. Ukrainian defenders successfully intercepted at least two cruise missiles and 111 drones. However, the ballistic missiles proved significantly more difficult to counter.

Officials have identified a critical shortage of munitions for Patriot air defense systems as a primary factor in the current vulnerability to high-speed ballistic threats, which travel at multiple times the speed of sound. In response to the ongoing situation, President Zelenskyy has urged international allies to accelerate the delivery of support packages previously agreed upon at a recent NATO summit. He further emphasized the need to finalize agreements with Western partners to allow Ukraine to produce its own Patriot interceptor missiles, a development U.S. President Donald Trump indicated would be permitted under a new license.

The aerial campaign coincides with an intensified effort by Ukraine to disrupt Russian military logistics. Robert Brovdi, chief of Ukraine’s drone forces, reported that his units successfully struck 21 fuel tanker vessels in the Sea of Azov overnight, in addition to seven cargo and support ships.
