The Star Wars: Visions franchise is expanding its narrative scope with the debut of a new limited series, Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi. Lucasfilm and Production I.G. Confirmed that the series will premiere exclusively on Disney+ and Hulu on August 5, 2026. This project serves as the inaugural title under the new "Star Wars: Visions Presents" banner, a platform created by Lucasfilm to facilitate longer-form storytelling within the artistic framework established by the previous anthology series.
The series continues the narratives established in two prior shorts: "The Ninth Jedi," which originally aired in 2021, and its sequel, "The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope," which debuted as part of the third volume of the anthology on October 29, 2025. Following the events of those shorts, the plot follows Lah Kara as she continues her training in the ways of the Jedi under Margrave Juro. Kara embarks on a journey of self-discovery, leading a small fellowship of Jedi-in-training on a quest to rescue her father. The story is set in a distant, post-apocalyptic future where the Jedi Order and lightsabers are exceedingly rare.

Creative Leadership and Production
The production is a collaboration between Lucasfilm and Production I.G. The project is led by supervising director Kenji Kamiyama and director Shunsuke Tada, with Hitoshi Ito serving as producer. The creative team also includes executive producers James Waugh, Jacqui Lopez, Josh Rimes, Justin Leach, and Mitsuhisa Ishikawa, alongside producers Hitoshi Ito and Kanako Shirasaki, and co-producer Caroline Keller. Mitsuyasu Sakai is credited as the writer.
The project was formally showcased during a spotlight panel at the Los Angeles Convention Center on July 2, 2026, as part of Anime Expo 2026. The event included a special screening of the series' first episode and the reveal of the official trailer and teaser poster.
Voice Cast
The series features a returning voice cast for both the English dub and the original Japanese version. The English dub roster includes Kimiko Glenn as Lah Kara, Andrew Kishino as Juro, Masi Oka as Ethan, Patrick Seitz as Homen, JP Karliak as Gramps, and Simu Liu as Lah Zhima. Neil Kaplan returns as The Narrator. New additions to the English voice talent are Feodor Chin as Gennoh, Young Mazino as Nawaam, Chase Sui Wonders as Tafflah, and Keone Young as Kwana.
The returning original Japanese cast includes Chinatsu Akasaki as Lah Kara, Tetsuo Kanao as Juro, Hiromu Mineta as Ethan, Hinata Tadokoro as Homen, Cho as Gramps, and Shinichiro Miki as Lah Zhima. Akio Otsuka returns to voice The Narrator.
Franchise Context and Future Outlook
The success of the Visions anthology, which has spanned three seasons of standalone shorts, provided the foundation for this spin-off. While The Ninth Jedi is the first short to be adapted into an eight-episode limited series, Lucasfilm has indicated that the "Visions Presents" banner will be used for future long-form projects. The franchise remains active in the animation space with the development of Maul: Shadow Lord. Set in the period following The Clone Wars, the series will feature the return of Sam Witwer as the voice of the titular character. While plot details for Maul: Shadow Lord remain under wraps, Lucasfilm has confirmed Witwer’s involvement in reviewing scripts and providing input.
