Gabriel Luna Cast as Serial Killer Ray Ballard in Dexter: Resurrection

Production on the second season of Dexter: Resurrection has officially confirmed the addition of Gabriel Luna to its ensemble cast. The actor, known for his work in The Last of Us, FUBAR, and Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy, has been cast in a guest-starring role as a serial killer known as Ray Ballard, who operates under the moniker "The Sleepy-Eyed Stranger." The announcement, made by Paramount+ and Showtime on 15 July 2026, formalizes months of speculation regarding the project's expanding roster of antagonists.

The confirmation follows weeks of observation by set watchers in New York City, where the series is currently filming. As of 16 July 2026, the production has entered its 14th week. Earlier in June 2026, eyewitnesses captured footage of Luna filming scenes alongside series lead Michael C. Hall and returning cast member Uma Thurman. In one instance, observers reported seeing Luna’s character departing a residential building and hailing a taxi shortly before Hall and Thurman were seen exiting a neighboring property.

A Broadened Roster of Adversaries

The second season is distinguished by a narrative that pits Dexter Morgan against multiple, distinct threats. The production has assembled a cast of established performers to portray these new antagonists and recurring characters:

The character descriptions suggest a high-stakes environment for the protagonist. Brian Cox portrays "The New York Ripper," a figure whose history of terrorizing New York has been established in the series' lore. Dan Stevens, cast as "The Five Borough Killer," is described as a character who utilizes taunting phone calls to threaten the public and police, drawing comparisons to historical criminal patterns. Additionally, Nona Parker Johnson joins the cast as Fiona Mixon, a training officer in the Homicide unit and daughter to Bokeem Woodbine’s Capt. Mixon; the character is also noted as a love interest for Harrison, played by Jack Alcott.

Production and Returning Talent

The series remains under the direction of showrunner and executive producer Clyde Phillips. The production is a collaboration between Paramount Television Studios and Counterpart Studios. Executive producers include Michael C. Hall, Scott Reynolds, Marcos Siega, Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, John Goldwyn, Sara Colleton, Veronica West, Kirsa Rein, and the team of Tanner Bean and Katrina Mathewson.
