A significant step toward international municipal cooperation began this week in Bambilor, Senegal, as a delegation from the Italian town of Verdelino arrived to formalize a comprehensive partnership focused on economic development and social support. The initiative, driven by local leadership, aims to address critical needs in youth employment, public health, and vocational training.
Scope of the Partnership
The collaboration between the West African commune and the northern Italian municipality—located in the province of Bergamo—is structured as a formal “twinning” or sister-city agreement. According to local officials, the pact functions on a renewable three-year cycle designed to foster institutional and economic ties rather than purely ceremonial friendship.
The agreement targets five primary sectors for immediate development:
- Youth Employment & Training: Creating pathways for professional insertion.
- Public Health: Sharing resources and strategies for medical care.
- Economic Investment: Encouraging cross-border business ventures.
- Tourism & Culture: Promoting cultural exchange between the regions.
- Public Administration: Strengthening institutional capacity through shared expertise.
From Diplomatic Tour to Local Action
The arrival of the Italian delegation on Thursday, November 20, 2025, marks the tangible result of a recent European tour conducted by Thierno Amadou Ba, the Khalife General of Bambilor. Serving as the president of the NGO Fawzi Wanadiati and the primary architect of this twinning program, Ba’s diplomatic efforts abroad laid the groundwork for bringing Italian resources and expertise directly to the commune.
Upon landing at Blaise-Diagne International Airport, the delegation was greeted by Bambilor Mayor Ndiagne Diop before proceeding to the residence of the Khalife General. Following these initial greetings, the group moved to the town hall esplanade for an official reception ceremony.
Mayor Diop described the partnership as a “true boon” for the community, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to ensuring the alliance yields concrete, useful results for the local population.
Delegation and Upcoming Agenda
The visiting team is led by Verdelino Mayor Zanoli Silvano and includes a mix of civic and business leaders, such as former Gendarmerie Captain Tucci Gérardo, entrepreneur Giovanni Nozza, and diaspora community leader Yety Dia.
The officials have a rigorous schedule leading up to the formal signing of the agreement. On Saturday, the partners are scheduled to visit the Investment Promotion and Major Projects Agency (APIX), along with various Senegalese enterprises and public administrative structures, to assess investment potential.
The official ratification of the twinning agreement is set to take place next Tuesday, solidifying the legal framework for this cross-continental cooperation.
