Weird Al Yankovic to perform free outdoor show at Just for Laughs Montreal

The Just for Laughs festival is scheduled to return to Montreal from July 15 to July 26, 2026. Organizers have unveiled an initial programming slate that blends veteran industry icons with contemporary digital performers. Among the most prominent additions is a large-scale, free outdoor concert by musical satirist "Weird Al" Yankovic, who is set to perform at the Place des Festivals on July 25 as part of his current Bigger & Weirder tour.

The 2026 festival emphasizes a strategy of booking legacy acts alongside emerging talent. Jerry Seinfeld, who first appeared at the festival in 1985, is confirmed as a headliner. He is scheduled to perform a solo set on July 23 at the Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier in the Place des Arts. For Yankovic, the Montreal appearance marks a return to a city where he first performed in 1990. Reflecting on his career trajectory, Yankovic noted that his long-term success was not anticipated by industry figures early on. I had my rock star dreams when I was a young man, but I never really thought that I’d have a career that lasted this long — and nobody else did either, Yankovic said. He added that he was often viewed as a flash in the pan by record labels who sought artists with perceived staying power.

Confirmed hosts for the 2026 season include Gabriel Fluffy Iglesias, Mike Birbiglia, Atsuko Okatsuka, and Gerry Dee. The festival’s programming also includes recurring series such as The Nasty Show, hosted by Comedian CP, and The Culture Show, hosted by David Merheje. Both are set to run from July 15 to July 19 at Club Soda. The lineup further incorporates live iterations of digital and podcast content, including Girls Gotta Eat, featuring hosts Rayna Greenberg and Ashley Hesseltine, and Smosh Reads Reddit Stories Live!, hosted by Shayne Topp.

Yankovic, meanwhile, maintains a deliberate creative process regarding his repertoire. When evaluating his work, he pointed to his most recent album, Mandatory Fun, as his best, while identifying White and Nerdy as his most autobiographical recording. Addressing his approach to parody, he noted that he frequently abandons projects he deems half-baked, occasionally repurposing musical components for his polka medleys. Looking toward his upcoming appearance in Montreal, the performer stated, I’m looking forward to doing my songs half-phonetically in French. I think that’s gonna be a lot of fun.
